He's not Goth, he's Emo
What in the world? My wife heard this phrase from a youth in our church when she referred to a teenager she saw the other day who was dressed in all black. According to what this youth told my wife there is a new group (new to us anyway) of strange dressing youngsters that look Goth, except instead of baggy and loose fitting, their clothes are tight fitting and too small. I guess the males even buy shirts in the boys dept. that show their stomachs and wear low riding, off the hip, tight girls jeans. They love it thinking that they look better than the girls do. They have the long hair that covers half their face and probably wear the makeup and black painted nails. They are often known to be "bisexual" and they get the name Emo because their emotions are right on the surface with any little thing setting them off. I guess there are other weird offshoot groups that some kids identify with these days. It is sad and scary that kids can get mixed up in groups that influence them in negative ways like this. Often they are just looking for acceptance from someone. Probably depressed and lonely. Shows that we need to pray for our youth and their parents.

I first saw this type of group at school two years ago. Usually, I find they come from a home with only one parent, and have very little supervision.
They don't get in trouble at school very much...they tend to be introverted in class. Out of school, however, I think the lack of guidance leads many of them down the wrong path.

This is an interesting phenomenon.
Every time we think we have seen it all where kids are concerned, they come up with something "new."
It has always been thus, is now thus and will be thus forevermore (at least on this earth).

Life is so sad for some, especially children whose parents show now care, guidance, or love to their children. Just watched the t.v. movie "The Ron Clark Story" Very good.

I wonder how this "emo" perspective on life dressed in the 50's? Was there a kid like this in Rebel Without A Cause?

I graduated from HS in the early 90's and back then they were called New Wavers or something or other, but it was the same kind of dress and attitude. Everyone one of them that I knew had a distant parent or abuse or had been through molestation. All them that I knew were involved in or were dabling in the occult. They were searching and reaching out. They liked dressing different because it made them feel like they were in control of their lives. They controled their lives by looking different. A friend of mine even said that it was her way of crying out, but at the same time told other people to leave her alone. She liked that people looked at her in a strange way and were scared of her. That was her way of controling her surroundings and that no one could hurt her.
I am not saying that all of the kids who dress this way are doing everything that I listed or had been abused in some way. I know of a guy that dresses goth, but is sold out for the Lord. He just likes to dress different. I will say that probably majority of the kids who are into goth have probably been through some things that kids shouldn't have to go through. They need love.
